It took a while and due to old hardware a quest to find the right distribution. So I eventuelly chose mint. And got gm2 working meaning able to compile, link and run binaries.
-fonlylink does result in errors though.

using this /etc/apt/sources.list

-- sources.list --

#deb cdrom:[Linux Mint 17.2 _Rafaela_ - Release i386 20150627]/ trusty contrib main non-free

#
#  GNU Modula-2 repo
#

deb http://floppsie.comp.glam.ac.uk/debian/ wheezy main
deb-src http://floppsie.comp.glam.ac.uk/debian/ wheezy main

#for libmpc 2 support
# /etc/apt/sources.list :
deb http://ftp.be.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main
deb-src http://ftp.be.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main
#also make sure to install libpth-dev

-- sources.list end --
