This gentleman on the GLUG Bombay list is having some chronic problem
playing DVDs and VCDs in Dapper Drake. Can someone help him?

By the way, he is the chap from whom I bought GB's DVD drive. :-)

my desktop. All instructions given on were followed but
still VCDs would not be opened in Totem. A DVD would play upto the menu
but the 'Play' link that comes after that on the screen would not come
and the screen would simply remain blank.

6.06 LTS. I am able to get videos for VCDs as well as DVD but no sound.
The system too did not have sound so some ALSA packages were downloaded
based on their look and feel. System sound is up but no movie sounds. I
am able to record my voice using 'Sound Recorder' but the playback is

Could anyone help me out on this? I am willing to get the lappy to your
office at your convenience.
