Hello,
After a little experimenting, I found two things that, (for me,) majorly
slow down the game: Circles, and forbiddin area.
I play in windowed mode with a resolution of 640x480x16, GL backend, and low
quality turned on.
I started a game with the map 'Garden 3' with 3 AI Castors. After five
seconds, the CPU load goes to about 40%. When I scroll so that I am looking
at nothing but unexplored area, it is just slightly less.
Now consider this: After placing a single war flag, my the CPU load bar goes
from about 40% to 130%! If I place a second one, it goes to around 250%!
After destroying these flags, it goes back to %40.
The second slowdown is the forbiddin area. If I select the largest circular
brush, the CPU load goes from 40% to 120%! If I fill my screen with it, it
goes to about 600%! Erasing it, or even just scrolling away, brings the load
back to 40%.
I am running SUSE 9.1 on a PIII850, with an ATI M3 (Rage 128 chipset, with 8MB
video memory.)
I understand that supporting dated hardware may not be a top priority, but I
thought that I might as well make this known. :) I do have a little
experience with OpenGL, so perhaps I can look around the code to try to find
a way to speed it up.
MWM
