1.5.3 Ggradebook
Ggradebook is a GNU gradebook for teachers from the Free Software
Foundation (FSF). It's pretty basic and a little bit hard to navigate.
Ggradebook has not been updated in over three years but is still a
functional example.
Good Features:
covers the basics fine
has several different options for printing (Everything, Current
Period Only, Final Averages Only, or Students Only)
can output in a LaTeX format or plain text file
option for Letter and Percentage grading as well as just Numeric
grading
can change what the minimums for a letter grade will be. ex: 89%
for A
has a highest and lowest possible percentage grade
can drop lowest grades when calculating period averages.
can add all students from another class.
can have notes for students/assignments
calculate final averages in wholes, halves or decimals.
Bad Features:
hard to edit assignments and grades.
weird way for entering grades
have to know students ID# to edit the student
columns just have a number for the assignment, no name or hint at
all as to which assignment it is
mostly designed for high school periods, not college classes.
Missing Features:
no import of other gradebook formats, including no import of plain
text
access to grades just by teacher, no web access for students
no coloring of columns, very plain
names for columns, it just has the assignment ID
no back-up options at all
no login at all. anyone can change grades
can't sort columns
No graphical grade adjustment tool to set grade threshold values
# Previous classes are not readily available for comparison
Can't split grading cells within a category for multiple part
assignments
No offline client to make offline grade modifications easily
Student access to their own reports and class statistics without
needing teachers to post a report
time-stamp pop-up for any grade changes
explorer-style class browsing (Easy Grade uses tabs)
automatic due-date enforcer
graphical assignment handin system
No security
No student access
No histogram or pie chart
No Grade filters
No charts
Can not configure GUI layout
Can not adjust colmns or type of information
No student prediction
