Greetings!

Peter, this is indeed sad news. You obviously have many skills which
have been of great service to GCL, and have been making high quality
contributions. I apologize if anything I've done by way of project
management has made your work unnecessarily difficult. I'm guessing
that many of the hardships you've been bearing have resulted from our
lack of proper use of the tools CVS provides. In my mind,
you are certainly qualified to commit directly yourself, either to
HEAD or to your own branch if changes are substantial. But in
general, I agree, with a project of this size, keeping a private tree
in sync would be very difficult. I should have insisted on a merge a
long time ago.

In any case, of course I respect your decision whatever it may be. If
you do indeed wish to permanently leave GCL development, may I make a
request that you put your private copy up publicly somewhere? We may
be able to refer to it and merge in its gems in the future. I would
hate to see your work being lost.

Take care, and thanks for everything,
