On the issues of getting Debian Stretch working on the BBB, it turns out
there are "issues" but, thankfully, Debian Buster works. Thanks to Bob
Mottram (of FreedomBone https://freedombone.net/) for this information.
 You do need to use uboot / uEnv.txt values different to the
vmdebootstrap example, particularly:

loadaddr=0x82000000
initrd_addr=0x88080000
fdtaddr=0x88000000

Since Debian Buster is soon to be released then it is best to develop on
this anyway. Do note that vmdebootstrap is not going to be in Buster
(and beyond) so consider moving to an alternative.

The FSF have an article on "Single-board computers" (like the BBB):

(Thanks to Bob Ham for this link.)

Our next meeting is Tuesday, 21st May (the 3rd Tuesday of the month as
usual).

M.
