[Freetype] Java support? How can I help?

Hi,

I recently discovered the FreeType project, and I am mostly interested in the 
planned FreeType Layout library , especially for layout of complex 
right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew.  Also, the planned OpenType 1.3 
support is *very* attractive.

Is there a Java port of the freetype library?  If not, how difficult might it 
be to make such a port.

Also, might it be possible to port the FreeType Layout library to Java, or at 
least access the library using JNI calls?
