[Freetype] freetype tools fail reading truetype-fonts under windows (remark)

Thanks for answers,

however:
1.the font path is right and the font-files exist
(testing DOS and UNIX convention).
2.the permissions are right
(readable for everyone and writable for admin).
3.I didn't used wildcards. Examples:
ftdump arial.ttf
fttry 12 100 times.ttf
ftview 10 ariali.ttf
...
but every time I see the error message returned
from ftdump "Could not open face",
from ftmemchk "Could not find / open file" or
"Could not create face object" from fttry.
The returned error number is 0x002 (FT_ERROR_DEF "unknown file format").

I did compile the static library
1.including all components (autohint.c, cff.c, ftbase.c, ...),
2.putting all files in one directory and setting the definitions
FT_FLAT_COMPILE and WIN32
3.using word-alignment.

Before downloading a gnu-compiler, has anybody just another idea?
What about an example-makefile for borland bcc 5.51?
