hi! as a matter of fact, i only translate the character code if the
font is truetype. i am not a font expert, so i know nothing about
platform ids and so on. patches for correct handling would be most
welcome!

on the other hand, the type1 fonts included with tetex have the
standard tex encoding, so i would not expect FT_Load_Glyph to fail...
in fact, a few characters from eusm10 and eurm10 are displayed before
the program crashes. but then again, i'm far from a font expert!
