Thanks for the report, I've fixed it.

> - There are no apparent reasons to not quote those AS_HELP_STRINGs.

Only the most recent versions of autoconf have all internal M4 macros
properly quoted.  For backward compatibility it is necessary to
stay with the unquoted code.
