This is not a `padding' per se, but a necessity to make the color
filter work. The bytes are added around line 190 in file
`smooth/ftsmooth.c'.
The remark is in the documentation just to notify the user that the
pixmap sizes are larger than probably expected. Since it confused
you, please improve the wording.
