A typical Bengali text string looks like this.
সমস্ত মানুষ স্বাধীনভাবে সমান মর্যাদা এবং অধিকার নিয়ে জন্মগ্রহণ করে
Attached is a larger rendering with HarfBuzz, using the `Sagar' font
(which is not a high-quality font, but this doesn't matter here). As
can be seen, there is no well defined bottom zone, while the top zone
– either the ascender or the horizontal line that connects almost all
characters – is regular. Consequently, hinting from top to bottom is
better.
