[ft-devel] Stance on X-and-Y-axes autohinter?

Hey list,
so I wanted to look at tt*.* and then I remembered that the autohinter 
can do both X-and-Y and "light" Y-only hinting. My impression is that 
X-and-Y is the lesser of the two. Is there anything that would speak 
against a theoretical removal of X-and-Y and crowning of Y-only as the 
one true king?
