That is, you probably want to do something like:

 aptitude reinstall libfreetype6 libfreetype6-dev

as root, to force it to download and reinstall the packaged
version. (Installing the latter package will get you the files you need
to build other programs against Freetype too, which'll probably solve
your original problem.)
