[ft-devel] disappointing results with autohinting

Dear FreeTypers,

I am getting very bad results autohinting Times New Roman (times.ttf from
Microsoft): see the attached image. I have turned off the TrueType bytecode
interpreter, and verified by single-stepping that the autohinter is being
used.

Any ideas about what I might be doing wrong are very welcome.
