Nope, it should work as is, so it seems there is a bug
in the library. Would you care to indicate us how to
replicate this bug.
Also, a good idea under Linux is to run the program
with the valgrind memory debugger, e.g.
valgrind --tool=memcheck yourprogram youroptions
