Yes, that's correct.
For an application where I put text in an interlaced video, I used
5-taps vertical FIR filtering very similar to this 5-tap FIR in order
to reduce local flickering effects (especially with small font size),
by distributing energy vertically.
For these kind of purposes (and yours :-) I would say it would be a
nice addition to have this inside Freetype.
Yes, I'll try to add that, but I haven't found an API that didn't suck
in some ways. I'm sure
we'll find one soon.
