I've just commited several fixes to the ARRAY issues, hardening the code to
detect out-of-bounds conditions, and reworking the memory allocation scheme
a bit.

Werner, I'll let you package 2.2.1 this time, once you've performed your 
usual
re-reading and re-formatting :-)
