I don't know about code writing.
When I was a child, I did it on MSX:
10 print "Hello!"
20 play "o4 cdefg"
...that's all. :-)

I agree with you. 
I'm waiting for your new "autofit" module.
I tested it, but it shows them:
$ gedit
gedit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6: 
undefined symbol: autofit_module_class
=> Apps don't start...
