Hello.
Extract of an old letter to address@hidden Keith Packard writing.
KP> [..] I'm sorry, but about 11 years ago I noticed some wording in
KP> the protocol spec which said that the bounding box information
KP> reported in the protocol measured the extent of the actual ink for
KP> each glyph.
KP> That meant that bounding boxes needed to be exactly fitted around
KP> the glyph and meant that there were no longer any constant metric
KP> fonts -- a full stop is usually smaller than a capital W...
KP> This lead to the duplication of metric data in terminal fonts; the
KP> 'bitmap' metrics which measured the extents of the glyph bitmaps
KP> and the 'ink' metrics measuring the extent of the ink within that
KP> bitmap.
Could somebody show me an application of ink metrics? I would be
extremely grateful.
Currently, the PCF driver ignores ink metrics. I will make them
accessible by defining a flag PCF_LOAD_INK_METRICS: invoking
Load_Glyph with this flag set will result in getting glyph metrics
from the /ink_metrics/ table rather than the /metrics/ table.
Any comments?
