These fonts are synthetic fonts (Courier Oblique is synthesized from
Courier, Courier-BoldOblique is synthesized from Courier-Bold).

See the Type 1 spec for more inforamtion of synthetic fonts.

The problems you see with Courier *ought* to happen with Helvetica and
a few others (whose names escape me right now).
