Good point.
The mechanism can be extended in a couple of ways (up to adding ML-style
pattern matching); if we want to keep them (and I think they're pretty
useful, so we should do that), we should have to look into that.
Whoever that 'we' is; if it ends up being me, it won't be done before
the 16th.
