I'm not sure if the fix has been included in a release yet, but getting the latest sources from git and recompiling should fix your problem.

I'm running 1.1.6-2 on my RPi2 (Debian), and I can't telnet to a running fluidsynth. It connects (port 9800), then the connection is immediately closed by the host.

Any ideas?
