If you're just working with different tunings and don't really produce 
atonal music, I'd recommend Fluidsynth's tuning support, see 
fluid_synth_create_octave_tuning().
We're using it with jOrgan to define organ tunings (selectable via RPN 
3) and it works like a charm.
