[emacs-wiki-discuss] Links (to Image Files) That Use Relative Paths Cause Emacs to Crash on Windows

I'm using Planner version 2004.11.20-18.58-stable under GNU Emacs
21.2.1 (i386-msvc-nt5.0.2195) of 2002-03-19 on buffy.

I can reproducibly crash Emacs simply by creating a link that uses
relative paths.  If I were to type this:

[[file://../pix/spongebob.jp

as soon as I press "g," Emacs will report a fatal error and exit.

Apparently this happens only with .JPG files (or perhaps other image
files).  It doesn't matter whether auto-image-file-mode is t or nil.
I can create the link using an absolute path without causing the
crash.  When I follow a link to an image file that has an absolute
path, the shell successfully loads the program to view the image.

If I do this:

[[file://../gbush.txt]]

I *can* complete the link.  But if I try to follow the link, I get the
message: 

browse-url-default-windows-browser: ShellExecute failed: The network
path was not found.

My goal is to have images in my published pages.  I'm not sure how to
do that, though, unless I enter the html tags directly?

I wonder if I should post this to the mailing list for Emacs for
Windows?  It doesn't (didn't?) support inline images.
