Another recipe: $ emacs -Q C-x 3 C-x 2 RET RET RET RET (enough to make the scroll bars useful) Then `zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' and the scrollbar will get bigger, even if the line doesn't span over multiple lines. In GNU Emacs 22.0.50.5 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars) of 2006-05-27 on mahaena X server distributor `Gentoo (The X.Org Foundation 6.8.2, revision r6-0.1.13)', version 11.0.60802000 configured using `configure '--prefix=/usr''
This might be considered a bug. At least it is a pity that the different scroll bars Emacs can be compiled with behave the same way. The Lesstif/Motif and Gtk+ scroll bars does not have this behaviour (i.e. growing when zzzzz is pressed, they shrink instead). I know that Lesstif/Motif/Gtk+ has another way of dealing with overscrolling than the native/Xaw3d scroll bars. I think this is an unfortunate side effect of that. On the other hand, many feel that the Lesstif/Motif/Gtk+ way of overscrolling is a bug too. I guess we have to revisit this issue after the release. I don't think this is so important to fix before that.
