thanks guys, but c-. does not work for me under xterm (it just inserts a period), it is also bound to a different command which does not have the same features. ESC-tab is ispell-complete-word, again a different command.
The two features of flyspell-correct-word I want are the menu of correct spelling options to choose from, and the fact that once I correct a mispelled word it is inserted into my deabbrev dictionary (if that what this is called...) to be automatically corrected via dabbrev next time I make the same spelling mistake.
wouldn't you consider it a bug that flyspell-correct-word does not work without windows system?
