That's true, apologies for being imprecise: 'M-x revert-buffer' has always re-applied the configured major mode. The odds of it being changed (due to the change in configuration) just increased somewhat with the commit I mentioned.
Please stop these insinuations. I said I don't want to go into that argument again, so you want to force me?? Just let it be.
