My point in this discussion is, that package's README files are also
visited by people not using Emacs. I'm confident that Emacs is able to
present an org-mode structure nicely, but this isn't true outside the
Emacs world.

Yes, we're speaking about Emacs packages first-hand. But even they are
distributed outside the Emacs or GitHub/GitLab infrastructure. So we
need a single starting point for users, w/o org-mode dependencies.
