Ah, good point.  In this respect a header-line isn't
similar to a mode-line.

(Well, I suppose a mode-line could also have column
"footers" that repeat the column headers or provide
some alternative identification.)

Agreed.  And the fix is (should always be, AFAICT)
pretty simple.
