You said it yourself.

And preferences are individual.

Will _you_ implement new defaults for Emacs
in two years?  And then two years after that?
And so on?  Will you take care of Emacs,
keeping it always in fashion?  No lapses, now...

Each time carefully, scientifically measuring
the pulse of fashion or fad, to see what's
currently hot, and so what will be (currently)
"successful"?  No mistakes, now - be careful.

A generation or two breast-fed from marketing,
Big Data, social-media nipples.  This is where
we are.

Everyone wants to be sure to be seen wearing,
using, and saying only the latest and coolest
things, as defined by...  Look at me, Ma!

"Likes" rule.  Not in Emacs; not yet anyway.
