Yes, but FWIW, "teacher's pet" also often has pretty
negative connotations. Not many students would like
to be called "teacher's pet". (But no doubt more than
a few would like to become a teacher's pet).
Connotations vary, but in some cases "teacher's pet" is
akin to and only slightly less awful than "brown-noser"
