Note that you can branch off from any commit on master after the fact.
Ie. you can look down the history list of master and decide "Ah!
There!", and then do
git checkout -b emacs-26.1
<sha1-has-of-the-commit-where-the-branch-should-start>
git push -u origin HEAD
