I just realized that a predicate function with this profile

  (defun frameset-p (object &optional valid-p)
    "Return non-nil if OBJECT is a frameset, nil otherwise.

  With VALID-P, return non-nil if OBJECT is a valid frameset
  \(i.e. check more thoroughly)."
    ...)

would also be kosher, at least in the CL tradition.
