Any line in an @example that is longer than about 61 characters will trigger overfull hbox in TeX. Any line in @smallexample that is longer than 64 characters will do the same. So it's advisable to break long lines into two, even if they must be a single line in actual usage. You can always say in a side note that the line must not be broken.
Thanks for the figures, but now that Eric Gillespie pointed out that the line can indeed be broken, I wil do that. Jan D.
