The cost of Emacs-Lisp "upgrade" is a one-time cost of 2-3 people doing
the design spec and the rest of us implementing it.
There are many other costs. However, I'm not going to argue about it
now--I've made this decision (years ago, in fact) and I just want to
make sure you know the decision.
