If you mean the type of the cursor--box or bar--it is set in the frame
parameters. This is documented in the ELisp reference.
That's right! I had forgot that. :-( I have put it in my .emacs file.
But the default when I run
/usr/local/bin/emacs -q --no-site-file
is a block, not a thin bar.
