I've never found the defaults too bad under X, but they haven't looked
too good in colour tty mode when I've tried. That might be somewhat
setup-dependent. What about dark backgrounds?
By the way, customize-face doesn't work properly with complex face
definitions. It typically shows them as sexprs. I got bogged down
last time I looked at that stuff.
