Because of non-standard formatting, the man page subjects are gone in 
apropos(1).

$ apropos diff|grep ^diff
diff (1)             - (unknown subject)
diff (1posix)        - compare two files
diff3 (1)            - (unknown subject)
diffpp (1)           - pretty-print diff outputs with GNU enscript
difftime (3)         - calculate time difference

$ aptitude show diffutils
Package: diffutils
Version: 1:3.7-3
