This is probably https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/497243 (so an update to at least 0.6.07 should help, but that is not (yet) available as debian-package)
Probably true, but I suggest skipping 0.6.07 and use http://code.launchpad.net/duplicity/0.6-series/0.6.08b/+download/duplicity-0.6.08b.tar.gz instead. There were some unfortunate bugs in the versions inbetween. ede
