CVS is slow ... but "-z3" makes it usable :)

and you can cvs from savannah via an HTTP proxy
provided you can run transconnect
(transconnect.sf.net) and use savannah's port 443 for
CVS (it's still cvs running on port 443 , not HTTPS).

You can check out stuff via SSH if you have a
developer id in Savannah and have updated the 
SSH key in it.

But after the initial checkout, it's all downhill
from there .... updates that is.
