Does the cygwin version also works on windows 2003 SP1 and Vista?

Unfortunately it will not work because of /dev/mem problem - see this thread on Cygwin list for more info:

  Accessing \device\physicalmemory from privileged
user mode processes works only on NT4, W2K and XP. Starting with 2K3,
access to physical memory has been restricted to work only in kernel

I'm not sure if there are any workarounds to that. I asked on a Cygwin mailing list, let's see what they say:

Hello Tomasz,

there's no official release of DMIDECODE for Windows.
I have once got a windows translation from a private developer
and edited it for my needs.

Please see This release is not based on the latest release of DMIDECODE
so You may have do do some work on it
if You need the latest changes and features.
I see.

On the other hand, it compiles just fine with Cygwin without any source code changes.

I compiled it myself, and here it is for download, if anyone ever needs it (version 2.9):

It's a zip package containing only dmidecode.exe and cygwin1.dll (and a small README file containing references to source code).
