Hi all,

It's about time to release a new version of dmidecode. The previous
version was released over one year ago. The most important changes
since then are as follows:

dmidecode:
* Better IA-64 support.
* Detect EFI at runtime, so that a single binary can support
  Intel-based Macintosh machines and regular x86 machines.
* Decode 3 HP-specific entries.
* Fix the decoding of the CPU signature for recent CPU models.
* Add support for the SMBIOS 2.5 specification.

biosdecode:
* Add support for the FJKEYINF entry point (for Fujitsu laptops).

vpddecode:
* Drop the name lookup table. It was unreliable and a burden to
  maintain.

general:
* biosdecode, ownership and vpddecode are no longer built on IA-64.

Thanks to John Cagle and Jens Elkner for contributing code.

I plan to release dmidecode 2.9 by the end of the month, most probably
on February 26th, 2007. Please test the current CVS version if you can
and want to help, and report if anything doesn't look right. In
particular I would like to make sure that the Makefile changes I made
today don't break on some systems. I am also very interested in reports
on SMBIOS 2.5 machines, as I do not have access to such a machine
myself.

Thanks,
