I think I've seen some slide mentioning Cocoa and Core Animation.

From what I've read it won't be open.

That all is/will be available in mySTEP if we enforce this work (sort
of "Open-i-phone") ...

What is most interesting for me in the context is
a) getting GNUstep running on the N800 (and provide a usable X- platform build
   environment)
b) build fancy effects and a cool UI theme

Building something better than maemo/hildon for the N800 would be quite awesome, too bad I don't have the time/resources :-) I find the 770/N800 surprisingly similiar to the interesting aspects of the iPhone. Except it lacks the flashy OS.
