I do not know if you *ever* needed to install a different gcc on apple than the one that comes from Apple.
Just install the Additions package and use Renaissance and it should work.
The only not so nice thing is that you have to set some GNUstep env vars before running applications.
Well, that's true if you want to use Cocoa and the gnustep additions;
not if you actually want to really run GNUstep under OSX using X11.app.
Why ? well.. to help porting apps, to easily rebuild a nib with Gorm
without a second machine, or even to trace your app with Shark :-)
And for that, you need to install the FSF gcc, etc. It worked well with
Panther, it didn't (when I tried, last february/march) in Tiger. I
think Amorya's question was about that.
But you are right, we should have a easy installer for Mac OS X. Intel support will end up with adding a
compiler switch like on the NeXT for most clean sources.
anyway an easy installer would be nice, yes.
