And because people are not directed to download Etoile. They are directed to download -core. Once Etoile is highly publicized and it is nearly impossible to simply download -core and install, this will be a good solution. Perhaps we can stop putting GNUstep forward as a project and replace it in marketing literature with the desktop effort?
[snipped...] I dont think you get it. This is a development list. People who use gnustep and related software now should be mostly testers and developers. It is up to distributions to cater to users who has no motivation to download and install from tarballs. I do believe that most of the concerns in this thread can only be addressed if someone starts building a GNUstep based distribution. Some sort of nextstep clone or a suite to replace everything on top of windows solaris mac or linux. Otherwise GNUstep based apps will be like a sore thumb running alongside gnome kde or otherwise native apps. Half measures will not work. Well a forked gnustep that uses native widgets and native behaviour just might. I am very biased towards a gnustep based distro like a nextstep clone running on linux. I dont think people will complain about the color of the desktop when the system is considered as a whole. Who cares if the scroll bars are to the left or a little too dark grey when they can easily click on icons, easily find their files, easily organize all their data any way they want and do all this very fast. What matters is how the whole system works together in a consistent manner. We dont need a few killer apps. We need many small apps that add specific features that work together. That way the whole system is the killer app. Sorry for being OT but thats the big picture for me. - -- Got Sharapova? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using the GPG bundle for GNUMail iD8DBQFCFwchyihxuQOYt8wRAmRRAJ0Rb9NvoWy6TK4mqNZ03pZ5rzAe1ACeOOL5 0dF/JIcymnuN8+WqeILrSs4= =bzD2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
