I'm only going to address this one point, directly, and make a sweeping
comment regarding your other problems.
Firstly, make generally appears in /usr/bin true, however, on most
systems /usr/bin/make is not GNU make, which is what GNUstep needs. It
may be called 'gmake' and live in /usr/local/bin, /foo/bar or whatever.
One should never assume a given program is available on every system.
Secondly, if you have major problems with GNUstep, I suggest highly
that you sit down, and if you want to help make the project better, at
least find reproducible bugs, file bug reports, or better yet, the
former with accompanying patches. Become part of the solution, not part
of the program. Far too many people just bitch and whine about GNUstep
without offering any solutions to the problem.
Anyway, all I'm going to say on this subject.
