Gaim has been working lately to separate its core from its GTK2 frontend. I think it would be a good idea to create a GNUstep front-end on this core, since the work is already very mature. Please, oh please don't duplicate effort by creating a new project. Gaim has nearly everything one would want as it is, and it should be easy now or in the near future to put whatever front-end one wants onto it.Adding GNUstep support to a big project like GAIM (usually one of the most popularly ranked free software projects) would help get GNUstep more exposure.
Sounds like a good idea. But I think having a xmpp framework would be nice anyway if xmpp's use is extended to other applications than IM. I don't think it would take long to just write a frontend to gaim core so it's a good short term solution, but in the end, I think it would be much better to have robust xmpp framework. I began looking at the xmpp ietf drafts and I may be able to work on that, but I was looking for a xml framework because I don't want to and don't feel able to write low level xml code. I'll think about it. But don't be expect too much. I'll tell you if I can't do it anyway.
