can't win for trying it looks like... ;)

I very much wish I was at least a beginning programmer so I could understand this stuff better. Thanks for your patience; all I want to do is run a simple mail program that doesn't look like M$ Outbreak ;)

Just a guess but ... if things were messed up by old headers when you first configured the software, you need to go back to that stage again ... and do a clean start.

So ...
go to the 'back' directory
type 'make distclean' (to ensure everything is cleaned up)
make sure that you have done '. /usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh' to set up your environment properly
type './configure' to re-configure the backend
type 'make install' to build and install the backend
