Hello,
I am using NetBSD 1.6 on a Quadra (68040) and I compiled GWorkspace from
the packets, I got version 0.4.
When I try to delete a file, using "File->Destroy" it always tells me "can't
contact backgrounder".
Is this a known problem maybe soolved in a later release of the program? Or
is this maybe a more general GNUstep problem?
Since it takes quite a lot of time to compile, I wanted to be sure before
getting a newer versions, besides the "package" has the feature that it can
be deinstalled easily.
Besides, I see that GWorkspace (right now the only bigger application I
compiled succesfully) is quite slow. I know the computer isn't the latest
hardware that exists, but at the time of NeXT it would have been quite fast
as a CPU and it also has 68MB of ram. So I wonder if there is some
inefficiency in GNUstep, in the current Objective-C immplementation, in the
X frontend instead of a native graphic server or just a combination of
everything.
Other appliations like NEdit run reasonably fast. Or maybe it is only
GWorkspace to be slow, I'll surely compile other programs...
